Antique Lye

especially developed for the treatment of oak wood

The antique lye gives oak wook a ammonia smoked appearance in vintage style. The exact color result can vary and depends mainly on the amount of tannic acid in the oak wood. Sapwood receives a not too dark appearance.

Available Pot Sizes:
The antique lye is available in the container size 2.5 l.

Tools:
Acid-proof brush, plastic bucket and stick for stirring.
Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and
eye/face protection. Clean tools in water.

How to do...

Wear during the application suitable, acid protective clothing, eye goggles and gloves.

1. Before applyling the lye, the unfinished wood must be sanded finely (using abrasive papier with grit 100 – 120), oil free, clean an dry. Shake the container before application well. Pour the antique lye now into a plastic bucket an stir the product in order to get an evenly result.

2. Apply the lye evenly on the woodwork and use a roller or a nylon brush for application. Apply the product lenghtwise along the grain. Use for 10 m² at least 1 liter of the product. Is the woodwork vertically mounted, apply the product from the bottom to the top.

3. Let the wood completely dry for about 2 – 4 hours at a room temperature of approx. 20°C/68°F.

4. Then clean the floor with a mixture of 125 ml intensive cleaner and 5 liter water. Let the floor dry for 24 hours.

5. Remove standing wood fibers with a polishing pad and then vacuum clean the floor.

6. Apply now an appropriate wood oil on the floor and clean the used tools with water.
